THE CAREER
Registered nurses (RNs) are key members of the professional healthcare team. TCL’s ADN and PN programs are designed to prepare individuals to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) or the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).

RNs provide care at the bedside in a hospital setting, carry out medical regimens, supervise licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants (NAs), and help individuals and groups take steps to improve or maintain their health.

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) work as part of the health care team to provide care for patients under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. Specific duties include hygienic care, medication administration, observation of patient’s responses to care and patient care needs, contributions to the patient’s plan of care, and supervision of care provided by nursing assistants. RNs, LPNs and CNAs may also work in physicians’ offices, clinics, home settings, and public and occupational health settings.

CAREER OPTIONS
The salary range for a registered nurse nationwide is $33,970 – $69,670. The salary range for a licensed practical nurse nationwide is $23,000 - $44,000 per year.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The program consists of general education, science, and nursing courses taught in the college classroom, on campus laboratories, and multiple clinical settings. You must first attend an Info Session. Contact a health science advisor for further information or visit our web page at www.tcl.edu.

Some classes in the Nursing program are taught on the TCL New River campus.  Students will be required to attend some classes on the TCL Beaufort campus.

The RN program (ADN) takes five semesters to complete. LPNs may seek advanced placement in the program. The PN program (diploma) is taught over three semesters.

BIO 112 is the required prerequisite to BIO 210 for Health Science Associate Programs.

After the college admission process has been completed, the prospective student makes an appointment to meet with a health science advisor. The Nursing program has additional admission and application requirements. Applications for admission to the Nursing program may only be obtained from Health Science advisors. Acceptance into the college does not guarantee admission into a nursing program. For information regarding TCL’s Nursing program please attend a free information session. Visit our website or contact a Health Science advisor at 843.525.8267.
