Placement Testing

Placement testing is designed to help you get in the right classes so you can get the skills you need to succeed. TCL uses the American College Testing (ACT) assessment program to help students reach their educational goals. Assessment instruments include ASSET (Assessing Student Success Entry and Transfer) and COMPASS (Computer Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System). ASSET and COMPASS include comprehensive assessment, orientation, course placement, counseling and advisement to help ensure students’ academic success.

The Testing Center is located in Building 1 on the Beaufort Campus, in the Learning Resources Center at the New River Campus, and tests for the Hampton Campus can be arranged by contacting the front desk.  Call 525-8344 to schedule your test. Some programs do not require testing; your Advisor or the Admissions Office can advise you if you need placement testing for your program.
