Placement testing is designed to help you get into the right courses so you can received the skills you need to succeed. TCL uses the American College Testing (ACT) assessment program to help students reach their educational goals. Assessment instruments include ASSET (Assessing Student Success Entry and Transfer) and COMPASS (Computer Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System). ASSET and COMPASS include comprehensive assessment, orientation, course placement, counseling and advisement to help ensure students’ academic success. Some programs do not require testing. Your Advisor or the Admissions Office can advise you if you need placement testing for your program.
The Testing Center check-in area is located in Building 1 on the TCL Beaufort Campus, the Learning Resources Center at the TCL New River Campus, and the reception area at the TCL Hampton, H. Mungin Center. Testing appointments are required for the TCL New River Campus and the TCL Hampton, H. Mungin Center. When planning to take a test, allow enough time to complete the test before the Testing Center closes.
