This course is to educate the student in knowledge as an advanced veterinary assistant. This includes restraining techniques, laboratory techniques, surgery, hormones, vaccines, drugs and radiology skills. The student will gain further knowledge in obtaining proper history, different types of sutures, types of vaccines, further restraint techniques and sample collection.

Prerequisite: Small or Large Animal Veterinary Assistant course taken at TCL or 6 months + of animal handling experience

This Continued Education class is designed to enhance the knowledge of Assistant Veterinary Technicians by improving:

  • Laboratory skills- including fecal exams, heartworms tests, blood smears, skin scrapes, staining slides, ear cytology, blood collection tubes, and urinalysis.
  • Pet first aid- what to do in an emergency.
  • Restraining techniques- different ways to restrain pets depending on procedure.
  • Blood Collection, Injections, Measuring Medications for Prescriptions. Understanding Drug Tiers, Improved Anatomy Knowledge
