HILTON HEAD ISLAND WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL AWARDS $4,000 to TCL

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (September 14, 2012) – The Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival recently awarded $4,000 in scholarships to the Technical College of the Lowcountry. The Festival also awarded $6,000 to the University of South Carolina Beaufort.

 

Proceeds from the 2012 Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival’s two Silent Auctions benefit educational opportunities for students in the Hospitality & Tourism programs of study at the University of South Carolina Beaufort and the Technical College of the Lowcountry through the John F. and Valerie Curry scholarship fund. According to the Silent Auction Committee Chairman, Dr. Bob Hohman, “We are so pleased to have had such a successful 2012 Festival and the opportunity to award the funds for these scholarships to students studying hospitality and tourism right here in the Lowcountry.”

 

According to Louise K. Mathews, Executive Director for Institutional Advancement, Technical College of the Lowcountry,

“The scholarship will provide needed support for students at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. The John F. and Valerie Curry Scholarship will be distributed in the amounts of $1,000 to each of four students in a General Business program of study within

the Business Technologies Division. Recipients will have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 (“B”) or better. Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a hospitality program of study, who work in the hospitality industry, or who have at least one parent working in the hospitality industry.”

 

The 28th Annual Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival will take place March 4 – 9, 2013, kicking-off with a series of wine dinners at some of the Island’s most outstanding restaurants and dining establishments, leading up to the Saturday, March 9th Wine & Food Festival. The Great Chefs of the South Wine Dinners partner great wines and local chefs for a wide variety of scrumptious menu pairings beginning on Monday, March 4 through Saturday, March 9, 2013.

 

The Grand Tasting and Silent Auction will be held on Friday, March 8 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., location to be determined. The Wine & Food Festival and Silent Auction will be held from 12 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn.
