Learn to arrange flowers beyond the vase
Flowers are beautiful and therapeutic. As a left-handed designer with a vibrant floral business in Estill, Jean DeLoach likens her craft of arranging flowers to the flight of a butterfly flitting through and landing on flower petals with great ease.
“Floral design is the ultimate experience in buying and blending species, building positive and negative space, and for thinking outside the box,” says professional floral arranger and designer DeLoach.
It’s evident that DeLoach loves to keep her hands in the soil or in a vase to allow her creativity to flourish.
DeLoach brings her passion for creating floral arrangements and gardening to the Technical College of the Lowcountry Life Enrichment Center this summer to offer three unique courses.
“My courses are open to individuals with all levels of experience,” DeLoach said. “One simply needs to walk into the classroom with a willingness to learn. My role is as a guide to bring forward the creativity of all participants, no matter their skill levels.”
Silk Flower Arranging will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, June 27 through July 18 at TCL’s Beaufort Campus. Following basic floral design concepts, students in this course will learn how to arrange silks to appear realistic and to incorporate them with fresh flowers and plantings to enhance their natural surroundings.
Flower Arranging-Straight from the Yard will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, August 1 through August 17 at TCL’s Beaufort Campus. This class is designed for gardeners and floral arrangers alike and offers a strong local focus on bringing the full bloom of the natural environment indoors to a home or office.
Basic Floral Design will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, September 12 through September 28. Students will learn about tying bows and using ribbon. Plus, participants will learn how to arrange flowers in a round bouquet using fresh and silk flowers, how to wire roses and carnations, and how to put together a bud vase.
