The Technical College of the Lowcountry has named Louise Mathews as its Executive Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement, which includes administrative oversight of the TCL Foundation.

Mathews most recently served as the Vice President for College Advancement at Carteret Community College and Executive Director of Carteret Community College Foundation in Morehead City, N.C.

“Louise brings enthusiasm and a solid knowledge of the advancement profession, which is essential in establishing the relationships that bring added value to support TCL’s vision and mission,” TCL President Dr. Thomas Leitzel said.

Mathews has worked in N.C. community colleges for 25 years, holding various positions such as an instructor, continuing education coordinator, family literacy coordinator, adult high school coordinator, grant and special projects director, and interim vice president of instruction and student support.

“I am always amazed by community college students.  So many of them work, raise families, and go to school in order to better their lives – for themselves and their children,” she said. “They are also improving their communities because the great majority of community college students stay where they go to college. It is wonderful to see donors recognize these efforts and help students with scholarship funds.”

As Executive Director of the Carteret Community College Foundation, Mathews helped double the size of the Foundation’s assets while channeling three million dollars in property, equipment, and cash support to Carteret Community College.  At the same time, she wrote grants that brought seven million dollars to the college.

Mathews received a Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a concentration in Higher Education Administration.  Her undergraduate degree is from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in English with a concentration in Fine Arts.  Mathews also attended Circle in the Square Theater School in New York City for one year.

Mathews and her husband, John, have one daughter, Maya.

Mathews can be reached at 470-5962 or lmathews@tcl.edu.
