HVAC Technology

Technicians in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) design, install, maintain and repair residential and light commercial air conditioning and heating. They can be employed in a variety of environments that span from private homes to modern hotels. HVAC maintenance companies support mobile technicians that come to the location of the problem whether it is at a private residence or commercial establishment.

HVAC technicians may be employed by private companies or self-employed. Hotels, resorts, supermarkets and shopping centers employ HVAC technicians as maintenance and repair personnel. HVAC technicians also design heating and cooling systems for a wide variety of residences and businesses, install new heating and cooling systems and supporting duct work in newly constructed homes, businesses or commercial entities.

In 2009, the average annual income in South Carolina for an HVAC Technician was $36,510.*
