SURVEY YOUR CAREER.

As a civil design technician, your skills in surveying and civil design will always be in demand.

TCL’s Civil Design Technician certificate program prepares students to work in land surveying and civil applications. Civil technicians, also known as civil engineering technicians, contribute to infrastructure projects such as highway construction and bridge building by providing direct support to civil engineers.

Civil Technicians in South Carolina earn $48,190 annually on average, according to 2018 reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Program

Students learn the basics of map topography, plat preparation and civil project designing. In addition, students get hands-on experience in operating surveying equipment, and they complete drawing projects using concepts related to linear and angular measurements, map projections, data capture and land development.

The 22-credit-hour certificate program can be completed in as little as two semesters. Courses include engineering surveying, basic civil drafting and advanced computer-aided design (CAD) and applications.
