The Technical College of the Lowcountry is currently accepting applications for fall 2011 entry into its five health sciences programs: massage therapy, nursing, physical therapist assistant, radiologic technology, and surgical technology. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2011.

TCL health sciences students enjoy on-campus learning using the latest in high-tech simulation equipment. Students receive additional hands-on practice at clinical sites located throughout Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton and Colleton.

“TCL’s health sciences programs are vigorous and demanding but produce extremely qualified and successful graduates,” health sciences division dean Marge Sapp said. “Our programs truly prepare graduates to excel in challenging health care careers.”

In fact, 100 percent of TCL’s May 2010 associate degree nursing graduates passed the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) on their first attempt. This is well above the national average of 87 percent.

In addition, the TCL radiologic technology program recently announced a perfect pass rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the fifth year in a row.

Health care is expected to generate 3.2 million new jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This means the job outlook is exceptional for all of TCL’s health career programs, Sapp said.

“Just read the classifieds, and you’ll see that jobs exist today in all of these health career fields,” Sapp said. “And these are high-paying jobs with good benefits.”

A variety of federal and state financial aid options are available through the TCL financial aid office. Additionally, most South Carolina residents automatically qualify for S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance, which is not based on need or income and can pay more than half of TCL tuition.

In-state tuition is offered to residents of Chatham and Effingham counties in Georgia as well as to military members and their spouses who are stationed in Beaufort. TCL has campuses in Beaufort, Bluffton and Hampton.
