Program Description


Technical College of the Lowcountry’s Mechanical Design Technician Certificate program prepares you for a high-skilled position in today’s cutting-edge design and manufacturing industries.

This 33-credit-hour program helps you develop basic and advanced engineering graphic skills to produce accurate technical drawings. In addition, 3-Dimensional object based and state-of-the-art parametric design concepts are introduced for designing machineries and their components.

Additive and subtractive 3-D modeling concepts using solid modeling software will be applied for product development and students will learn rapid prototyping techniques. Students will demonstrate their machine design skills by producing models of working prototypes and develop a portfolio to share with prospective employers.

Courses include intro to engineering/design graphics, geometric dimensioning, CAD, rapid prototyping and more.

The S.C. annual mean wage for Mechanical Engineer Technicians and Drafters is around  $58,000 according to 2017 reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

What does this program cost?*

Tuition: 33 credits x $190 per credit = $6,270.

Remember, this is before S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance and other financial aid, which could drop your costs by more than half. In fact, after financial aid, many TCL students attend for free.
