Blackboard Login Instructions:
All TCL students/users Log-In to a secure portal using a TCL user ID and password. All enrolled students/users are authenticated through an identity management system that provides each student/user with a unique Username and Password for access to the portal as well as the learning management system.
- New and Returning students your Blackboard User Name is your seven-digit TCL Student ID number including the proceeding zeroes. Example: 0012345
- New students your initial Blackboard Password is the First letter of your first name, lowercase, and the last three digits of your social security number. Example: j123. (NOTE: Use lowercase letter and without spaces.)
- Students and Faculty can access their Blackboard account by clicking on the link at the end of this message.
Each student manages their Blackboard password using the “Personal Information” link on the “My TCL Home Page” or the My Places Page.
TCL recommends that you change your password periodically to ensure security. Students/ Users should never be asked or required to disclose passwords to their accounts to any college employee or to other students. All users at TCL are encouraged to select strong passwords.
Strong passwords contain at least three of the four following character classes:
- Lower case characters
- Upper case characters
- Numbers
- “Special” characters (e.g. @#$%^&*()_+|~-=\`{}[]:”;’<>/ etc)
Once you have logged into Blackboard, to change your Password, Click the My Places link at the top of the page. (Click to enlarge photos)
- Log-In to Blackboard clicking the link at the end of this message.

- On the My Places page, select Personal Information. You can also access Personal Information on the Tools panel
- On the Personal Information page, select Change Password.

- On the Change Password page, type a new password for the account. The password must be at least four characters and contain no spaces.
- Type the password again to ensure accuracy.
- Click Submit.

Online Learning – Privacy
All students enrolled at the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL), regardless of the mode of instruction (traditional, online, or hybrid), are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). As published in the TCL Catalog and Student Handbook, FERPA was designed to protect the privacy of educational records including those of online learners.
TCL encourages all faculty and staff communication with students, regarding TCL educational records and specific courses, be conducted via the official TCL Student E-mail account, that also requires a secure login.
