Set up your TCL email account.

Check the email you used to apply! You will receive an email from your Admissions Counselor on how to set up your TCL email account. Your TCL email account will be used by Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Records to communicate with you throughout the enrollment process.

Complete New Student Orientation.

All new students must complete online orientation prior to registering with their advisor. Click this link to access New Student Orientation or go to for more information.

Submit your FAFSA & follow up with Financial Aid.

All students are encouraged to complete the federal government’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at fafsa.ed.govTCL’s school code is 009910. You must complete the FAFSA for all financial aid including Pell Grant, the SC Lottery Tuition Assistance program, SC Wins and the Building a Better Lowcountry Scholarship.

Submit documents.

Contact your High School and/or college to mail transcripts to the TCL Admissions Office. Attn: TCL Admissions, PO Box 1288, Beaufort, SC 29901

Official Transcripts can also be emailed (by the high school) or sent electronically to or hand-delivered to the TCL Admissions Office in a sealed envelope. College transcripts may be sent electronically to or hand-delivered to Student Records.

*The Admissions Office will use Multiple Measures as a means for admission and placement during the enrollment process. High School transcripts and/or GED Scores will be reviewed by admissions/advising staff to admit and place students into college-level courses when applicable.

You may have been selected for residency verification or legal presence verification. You will be notified of this in your TCL email account. If you were selected for verification, please refer to our New Student Documentation and Residency page on our website. Submit your documents to your admissions counselor or using your TCL email account.

Submit placement testing.

Not everyone needs a placement test, but if Admissions advises you to do so, you can schedule a placement test. Students may also submit SAT/ACT/IB/AP scores.

Set up Self Service Account.

Through Self Service ( you can:

  • Check degree progress
  • Plan/register for classes
  • Pay
  • Check for holds
  • Check Financial Aid status/awards

Username: First and last name (all lowercase, no spaces)
Initial Password: Last 7 digits of your Social Security Number

Note: New password must be 6 to 15 characters long and must contain letters and numbers.

Meet with your Navigator/Academic Advisor.

After you have completed your enrollment steps you will be sent an an email on contacting your advisor to set up your classes. Contact them immediately to set up an appointment for advisement. Your advisor will help you choose your appropriate classes and discuss your degree completion plan.

Register for classes.

After you meet with your Academic Advisor, register online using your TCL Self-Service Student Planner. Use the Quick Student Planning and Registration Guide for step by step registration instructions.


Confirm financial plans.

Visit to see how residency, semester hour load, and fees determine your total tuition and fees.

Pay your bill or set-up payment plan.

Pay your outstanding tuition and fees or sign up for the payment plan. Check your residency status prior to paying your bill. You may have been selected for residency verification and need to submit documentation to TLC Admissions. Follow up with Financial Aid to make sure everything is set. Set up the payment plan or pay for your classes in full prior to the deadline to avoid being dropped from your classes. You can set up payments online in Self Service or in-person at the Beaufort Mather and New River Campuses.

Purchase books and supplies.

There is only one TCL College Store and it is located at the Beaufort Mather Campus in building 12 on the first floor.

Student ID cards are frequently required to verify your identity prior to receiving services in TCL support offices (i.e. Library, College Store, Student Records, Financial Aid and the Business Office). Keep your Student ID card with you on campus.

Attend Student Success Events.

After you have completed your registration and payment, you will have the opportunity to attend the TCL Student Success Events that are offered during the first week of the semester. Here you can:

  • Attend Financial Literacy sessions
  • Learn about TCL Student Organizations and How to get involved.
  • Learn how to utilize TCL Student Resources such as TCL Technology, Tutoring and the Library.
  • Attend sessions on time management, text anxiety and more!
  • Meet your Peers, make new friends and have some fun!

Set up Blackboard and go to class.

Blackboard is used by many faculty to provide course materials, post assignments and tests, communicate, etc. If your instructor is using Blackboard, your course will appear in your account.
