TCL officially cuts the ribbon on new HUB

TCL held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new student services HUB on Thursday, February 29, at its Beaufort Mather Campus. Officials from the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce, the City of Beaufort, Beaufort County and more joined college leadership to celebrate the culmination of the years-long project made possible through community support.

The renovated Moor Hall building dates to 1939 and is original to the Mather School that opened in 1868 during Reconstruction and eventually became TCL. In 2020, The Mather School was named part of the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network by the National Park Service

“Preserving and restoring Moor Hall has been a priority for TCL leadership. As you can see, it certainly has been given new life and will further ensure that the Mather School legacy of education lives on,” President Dr. Richard Gough said.

The HUB is a one-stop enrollment center for new and current students and houses admissions, advising, financial aid, testing and related services.

“At TCL, we empower our students to obtain appropriate academic information; develop educational, personal and career goals; and learn the skills they need for academic success,” TCL Vice President for Student Services Allison Canning said. “The HUB is essential to that empowerment.”

Having student enrollment and registration services in one centralized location is critical to student retention, completion rates and overall student success.

City of Beaufort Mayor Phil Cromer said that the HUB’s emphasis on student success is important to the community.

“The beauty of the HUB is that it’s going to create successful students, and successful students mean successful graduates. Successful graduates mean a skilled workforce for our area and our community,” Cromer said.

Canning agreed, saying that “the HUB is truly at the center of student success, and we couldn’t be more excited about what it means for our students and our community.”

The event concluded with facility and campus tours. Video of the event can be viewed on Facebook.
