Get the foundation you need to enter a career in health care or continue your health sciences education at TCL.

This all-new certificate is designed to provide you with a skill set needed to work in health care related occupations while including general education courses needed for all TCL Health Sciences programs. You can continue taking general education courses to prepare to apply to health science programs while in the Health Care Certificate major.

More About the Certificate

In addition to a core of general education courses, this 33-hour certificate program can be completed in as little as two full-time semesters. Classes include: 

  • AHS 102 – Medical Terminology – a key foundational course for all health sciences programs
  • AHS 138 – Medical Coding Basics – discover the basic concepts of coding for medical/dental services
  • AHS 205 – Ethics and Law for Allied Health Professionals – discover the ethical, bioethical, and legal concepts related to allied health professions.
  • BIO 210 – Anatomy and Physiology I
  • BIO 211 – Anatomy and Physiology II
  • BIO 225 – Microbiology

Technical College of the Lowcountry is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Unlike other TCL Health Sciences programs, the Health Care Certificate does not require a separate application. Students are required to follow the regular Admissions process. Visit www.tcl.edu/apply for more information
